I know Horley Sewage Treatments works has had serious problems for a while and we have started a utility task group at Surrey County Council to better hold Thames Water to account but today more sewage leaks, despite the sandbags, shows that action needed to expedited.
I asked the team at Surrey County Council to finally close the footpath, something we do not like to do as public access is important, and they agreed with signage going up this afternoon.
Cllr Richard Biggs has been great in getting the team at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council to put up signs and working with SCC.
Tim Oliver, leader of SCC and I will write to Thames Water immediately outlining the fact we do not want to have close public footpaths, it is not acceptable and we expect action to be taken. The upgrades are needed now.
