National Highways will shortly be repairing the M3 London-bound carriageway between junctions 4 – 3. Significant deterioration of the carriageway was identified following inspections earlier in the year, leading us to close lane one between junctions 4 and 3 to protect road users. They have since been working to understand the cause and extent of the damage, so they can plan appropriate repairs.
They will start extensive repairs on Wednesday 3 January 2024, and expect to be finished in mid-February. Due to the extent of repairs and the depth of excavation needed, they have to fully close lane one and two on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3, 24/7 for the duration of the work. This is so their workforce can carry out repairs safely, protecting both them and the travelling public. Lane three and four will remain open, with a 50mph speed limit in place.
As well as working during the day, they will be working overnight under a full closure of the London-bound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3, every night between 9pm and 6am.
