Marisa attended Groundswell yesterday. The Groundswell Festival is a forum for farmers, growers, or anyone interested in food production and the environment to share knowledge and work towards a better system that supports nature, and sustainability as well as ensuring the UK can produce more of its own food. Marisa spoke at the Pasture for Life session on the importance of delivering the infrastructure to support smaller scale farming and drive local rural economies with a particular focus on why small abattoirs are an important component.
The session was attended by over 60 farmers, food producers and NGOs who want to find ways of producing more local food in a high welfare and sustainable way. Marisa has been at the forefront of this work writing a report in 2020 which led to Government setting up a task group that she co-chairs and announcing funding in February.
