Marisa was the keynote speaker at the Surrey Crest Business Awards in the WWF offices Woking this Thursday where they heard from a range of Surrey businesses on their work around sustainability and innovation. Marisa spoke about Surrey County Council's commitment to supporting businesses and some of the initiatives in place to help with the shift to sustainability including the Rural Prosperity Fund and the business loan scheme. Marisa also outlined her view that business in Surrey will flourish and benefit from improved nature and increased biodiversity and that she is committed to protecting and enhancing the countryside under the Surrey Greener Futures work.
The best part of the evening was hearing from the businesses and charities on what they are doing to be ethical and sustainable. Particular favourites for Marisa were Chimney Fire Coffee, Albury Organic Vineyard, Food Float Dorking, Plant Passion and Surrey Choices.
Marisa said:
"The event was to celebrate business across Surrey and there is no doubt we have phenomenal companies, charities and leaders across this county doing things that will change our future. What was really interesting for me was that a large number of the businesses up for awards were from the Dorking area and just shows the level of entrepreneurialism combined with sustainability in the area. Working alongside nature and the countryside offers huge business opportunities and show we need to protect our natural assets as the return from them is immense in every way."
