I am not a vulnerable resident and I often just put on a coat and clutch a hot water bottle when I am at home without the heating on but I appreciate the concept of warm hubs because they offer so many different things! I am the cabinet member for Environment at Surrey County Council and we devised the roll-out of warm hubs to not only offer people warm space but also a place to socialise and a place to share information on other services and initiatives which can help residents.
We are all aware that there are many people living in Surrey who are struggling to pay their energy bills or who simply don’t want to have their heating on all day and they are often sitting cold and alone at home. It is fundamental that we provide support and offer a solution over the cold months. Residents can come to our warm hubs which are community buildings throughout the county where they can get a hot drink, read a book, socialise or even study or work. Anyone is welcome and we get a variety of different people.
As well as staying warm, you will be surprised at the other useful information you can pick up at the warm hubs around grants to decarbonise low income homes, guidance on insulation and lots of other services that can help with cost of living and support services.
