As your Parliamentary Candidate for Dorking and Horley, I am deeply committed to addressing the environmental issues that affect our beautiful countryside and the quality of life for all who call this place home. There is a concern that many of you have shared with me, and one that I witness daily is litter on the sides of our main roads and motorways.
Driving through our community, the sight of litter along the M25 at Dorking, the M23 into Horley, and parts of the A24 is not just unsightly; it's a blight on our landscape that harms our wildlife and detracts from the natural beauty that surrounds us. It's a problem that speaks to a broader disregard for our environment and community standards. But it's a problem we, as a community, can and must solve together.
In a video I've shared, I outline my frustration with this ongoing issue and my determination to see Dorking and Horley shine as examples of clean, respectful, and environmentally conscious communities. My approach combines innovation with accountability, focusing on a solution that respects our residents and natural heritage.
I support the use of new AI cameras along our main roads to identify those who discard litter from their vehicles. This technology isn't about persecuting motorists; it's about targeting specific behaviours that have no place in our community. Those caught throwing litter out of their car windows would receive immediate fines—a direct and effective way to deter such thoughtless acts and pave the way for a cleaner, more respectful community.
However, my commitment doesn't stop there. Fly-tipping is another issue blighting our countryside, and I advocate for more robust enforcement against these acts. We need hefty fines and compulsory community service for offenders, ensuring they contribute positively by clearing up the mess they've made. Let's face it: we should not need volunteers who give up their time to clear up other people's mess, as shown in my video.
In the coming months, I will explore how AI technology can be implemented explicitly in our worst-affected areas and lobby for the resources to enhance enforcement against fly-tipping. This is about protecting our environment, preserving our community's beauty, and ensuring a cleaner, greener future for Dorking and Horley.
Please watch the video, share it with friends and family, and join me in this vital campaign. Together, we can tackle these challenges and make a lasting difference in our community. Let's make Dorking and Horley litter-free for the sake of our environment, our wildlife, and our children's future.
Thank you for your unwavering support and your commitment to our community. Your dedication is what makes our campaign for a cleaner Dorking and Horley possible.
